The Fall of Beleriand: The Controlled Demolition of the West

The parallels between J.R.R. Tolkien’s First Age and the modern Western landscape are becoming impossible to ignore. In the Silmarillion, Beleriand did not fall merely because of Morgoth’s external might; it fell because of pride, kin-slaying, and the slow erosion of trust from within. Today, we are witnessing a similar “Fall of Beleriand,” where the cultural foundations of Europe and North America are being systematically hollowed out.

The Rot Within: Cultural Marxism as the Great Corroder

The primary engine of this decay is the ideological virus often termed Cultural Marxism. For decades, it has functioned as a slow-acting acid, dissolving the traditional pillars of Western civilization: the nuclear family, national identity, and Christian heritage. By prioritizing group identity over individual merit and historical grievance over shared destiny, it has created a “Fifth Column” of citizens who feel no loyalty to the flags they live under. and to top that a sixt column of people who actively hate the West and want to turn Europe into second hand Middle East.

In the UK, France, and Germany, this is no longer a theoretical debate—it is a lived reality of social fragmentation.

  • Great Britain: The cradle of Parliamentary democracy is now a shell where “Britishness” is treated as a colonial sin. The state has effectively lost control over large swaths of its urban centers, where parallel societies operate under their own moral and often legal codes. This dilemma has already hijacked UK foreighn policy under weak guiding hand of Keir Starmer
  • France: The Hexagon is fractured. The military has already warned—in open letters that were hushed up—that the country is heading toward a “civil war” caused by the clash between a secular, hollowed-out Republic and a growing, assertive demographic that rejects French values entirely. Ecomy has the runs, and demographics are in dangerous teeter-tooter.
  • Germany: The industrial heart of Europe is paralyzed. Decades of guilt-driven policy have left Germany unable to define its own interests. The result is a society that cannot defend its borders, its energy security, or its cultural soul, leading to a profound sense of alienation among the silent majority.

The Trump Paradox: Alienating the Natural Allies

While the internal rot continues, the external leadership of the West is equally fractured. President Trump’s “America First” doctrine is, in many ways, a logical response to decades of European freeloading. However, his method of delivery—the constant “tölviminen” or insults directed at allies—has created a strategic catastrophe.

For a European conservative or nationalist, the tragedy is twofold. On one hand, we agree that Europe must stand on its own feet and stop relying on Washington’s welfare. On the other hand, Trump’s rhetoric often fails to distinguish between the globalist elites in Brussels and the sovereign-minded patriots in Warsaw, Helsinki, or Budapest. By treating every ally as a debtor or a nuisance, he risks pushing even the most pro-American European conservatives into a corner where they feel they must choose between national dignity and a crumbling alliance.

The Tragicomedy of “Ass vs. Wool”

The situation has reached a point of peak tragicomedy. For years, the U.S. has signaled—both through Obama’s “Pivot to Asia” and Trump’s blunt isolationism—that Europe is a secondary theater. The message was clear: You are not needed, you are a burden.

Yet, the moment a real crisis emerges—such as the 2026 escalations in the Middle East or the ongoing pressure from the East—the tune changes. Suddenly, the U.S. expects these “irrelevant” European states to provide logistical support, troops, and diplomatic cover.

It is the classic Finnish proverb in action: “Kun perse ei kestä villaa” (When the ass can’t handle the wool). The U.S. wants to shed its responsibilities but cannot handle the consequences of a vacuum. Meanwhile, Europe wants the protection of a superpower it constantly mocks.

The Finnish Dilemma: Exporting Security While the Home Front Erodes

The absurdity of the current geopolitical “kissatappelu” is best illustrated by the demands placed on small, capable nations like Finland. While the U.S. signals a withdrawal from European defense, it simultaneously expects European allies to plug holes in global hotspots.

Imagine the strategic nightmare: Finland, a nation that has spent decades perfecting its own territorial defense, is suddenly pressured to project power thousands of kilometers away. We find ourselves in a position where we would be expected to send Katanpää-class mine countermeasure vessels to the treacherous waters of the Strait of Hormuz to keep global oil flowing—a task that directly serves the interests of a Washington that simultaneously calls us a “burden.”

At the same time, our F/A-18C/D Hornets, the very backbone of our own airspace sovereignty, would be earmarked to support air operations over the Levant, aiding Israel in a grueling campaign against the Ayatollahs’ regime. While our wings are spread thin over foreign sands, the internal threat back home—fueled by the aforementioned “Fifth Column”—would necessitate a massive surge in internal security forces. We would be forced to militarize our own streets to maintain order against subversives, even as our primary combat assets are burned out in a desert war that isn’t ours.

This is the ultimate “perse ei kestä villaa” scenario: trying to act like a global policeman at the behest of an unreliable partner, while the very foundation of our national stability is being eaten away by cultural decay from within. It is a strategic overstretch that threatens to leave the North not just cold, but defenseless.

Conclusion: The Shattered Shield

The West is not being conquered; it is being surrendered. Between the internal subversion of our culture and the external breakdown of our most vital alliances, the “Shield of the West” is cracked. If Europe does not find a way to re-assert its own traditional strength and if the U.S. continues to treat its few remaining brothers-in-arms as transactional enemies, Beleriand will not just fall—it will be erased from the map.

The time for polite diplomacy is over. It is time for a cold, hard look at who is still standing on the line, and who is already working for the other side.
