Yesterday I read that SWE-FIN application to join NATO might hit unexpected opposition politically. US NATO ambassador announced that NATO will not add new members for long time to come. Link HERE(In FIN). Admittedly he mentioned Georgia and Ukraine, so it MIGHT not mean, shall we say, more armed nations.

A general Pavelin said Finland is fully NATO compatible. Link HERE(in FIN) . So One has to wonder how it is going to be. I Understand that these are not in fact the same thing but two different things. Option to join is one thing and the compatibility is totally another.  Although one would expect that right now in this time and place NATO will need Finland and Sweden more to defend the Baltic States than Finland and Sweden will need NATO’s assistance.

It is evident that in NATO and Russia clash over the Baltic states or in the Baltic sea in general Russia will have her hands full with opposing the NATO and would not really have resources to devote against the Nordic States.

More over one would think that in many NATO Capitals in Europe the possibility of making an opposed landing to beaches somewhere between Riga and Pärnu is not appealing to most politicians because this would cost Buckets of Blood.  So much more appealing possibility would be to get Sweden and Finland in to make defense of Estonia and Latvia feasible.  

Finland is one of the rare countries in Europe that spends more than 2% of her GNP in defense, admittedly with some accounting gimmickry,  but still without the gimmicks it’s pretty close to 2%. So one would in fact expect to see some kind of information Warfare against the YLE, and another leftist controlled medias in Finland to give more balanced information about NATO and what it means to Europe.
